Gardening has long been a favorite past-time of food enthusiasts. In an increasingly urbanized society, bringing the garden into the home creates new opportunities for individuals and their local communities.
The Home Garden is a conceptual hydroponic home appliance that enables users to cultivate fresh, nutritious, and tasty food with ease.
Developed by a team of five master’s students at TU Delft, its goal was to serve as a forward-looking concept for high-end home appliance manufacturer Gaggenau. We created the appliance concept to bring the brand’s reputation for quality and luxury in line with a changing societal and environmental context. Furthermore, our work addresses innovation needs for Gaggenau to stay relevant to culinary enthusiasts.
To create an experience that evokes an optimistic view of the future, we envisioned a concept that encourages individuals and communities in urban environments to freely share resources while expressing their ambitions to grow their own produce locally. Building on user insights and considering current technology and research trends, we envisioned a modular hydroponic appliance. Its modularity would allow users to grow unique produce in the comfort of their homes – or to create communal hydroponic gardens in shared living and community spaces.
